Local cricketers battle on rain hit weekend

INADEQUATE COVERS and restricted use of the facilities did not deter local cricketers from putting in good performances last weekend as the national cricket competition continued.{{more}}

On a rain-hit weekend, ECGC Radcliffe recorded their third consecutive first innings points in the RBBTT Premier Division.

At the Arnos Vale Playing Field, Radcliffe made 311 for 8 against St. David.

William `Bill ” Edwards, a former national and Windwards Under-19 and senior opening batsman returning to the top flight of competition top scored, with 89. Dellorn Johnson 63, Lynden James 47, Delroy Johnson 46 and Teran Harper 33, grounded the St. David’s bowling.

Ronnique Laborde 3 for 48 and Javon Samuel 2 for 90 were St. David’s top bowlers.

Marlon John with another five-wicket haul took 7 for 75 and Dellorn Johnson 2 for 29 as St. David’s were dismissed for 183. Sheldon Hooper 54 and Teshern Lavia 38 were the principal contributors to St. David’s response.

But the star studded Victors One were on a mission to reclaim the top spot with an outright win over newly promoted Police One at Sion Hill.

Victors One reached 238 for 8, with Jamal Ash making 61, Lauron Francois 54, and Bertram Stapleton 35. Gerald Gould 3 for 27 and Brenton Smith 2 for 38, were Police One’s chief wicket takers, who were then destroyed by Norlan Williams and Hank Hall, both current senior national fast bowlers. Hall had match figures of 8 for 49 and Williams 7 for 41 as Police were bundled out for 46 in the first innings and 67 in their second giving Victors a win by an innings and 125 runs.

At the Stubbs Playing Field Police Two took first innings points from Spartans. Police on the back of Othneil Baptiste’s 42 and Oneil Thomas, 34 scored 126, with Micha Joseph taking 4 for 16, bowling for Spartans. At their turn, Spartans fell short reaching 100, with Reynold Mc Lean making 50 not out, and Elmore Alexander taking 3 for 12, Mohammed Lavia 2 for 31 and Baptiste 2 for 44. Batting a second time Police were 196 for 7, when play was called off. Shacky Green made 90 and Thomas 37. Nixon Mc Lean had figures of 3 for 36 and Darnley Grant 2 for 31.

The Bottlers First Division was also affected by rain. At Brighton, Saints made 167, with Jamal John scoring 51. Augustus Mofford bagged 4 for 46 bowling for Belmont, who were 60 for 8,as Ramon Young had a handful of wickets 5 for 9, but the match was abandoned with a no result.

The tale was similar at the Buccament Playing Field, as Unique Warriors posted 168 and were 71 for 4, against Victors Two who in their lone innings were bowled out for 112. Samuel Byam took 6 for 32 bowling for Unique Warriors.
