Union Island: ‘Energizing Easterval’

Plans are in an advanced state for the staging of the annual Easterval celebrations in Union Island which this year, will run from April 1st to 9th under the theme, “Energizing Easterval 2007 with fun, flair, culture and talent”.

According to a release from the Union Island Easterval Committee, a wide variety of activities is being planned, beginning with the Grand Opening ceremony on April 1. This will feature several speeches by government officials and sponsors and also cultural performances and displays.{{more}}

This year, a new event called Future Stars will be added to the calendar. This show is scheduled for April 3rd and targets youths and will showcase talents. The Cultural Explosion, one of the premier events is scheduled for April 5th, and features both local and regional groups showcasing the myriad of cultures and ethnicity within our islands.

The highlight of the Easterval celebrations would take place over the Easter weekend beginning with the Festival Day and food fair presentation during the day and the revered Soca Fest in the evening. This show will feature artistes from the mainland including Fireman Hooper, Icon, Rusty, Zola, & Skinny Fabulous, Scrunter from Trinidad, Digicel Rising Star finalist – Kimberley Innis from Barbados and Demus & Crack-It from Union Island.

The Miss Easterval Pageant will feature contestants from Tobago, St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad, Carriacou, Petit Martinique, Dominica, St. Vincent and host island – Union Island.

The festival will climax on April 9th, with the J’Ouvert and Street Jump Up/T-Shirt parade.
