Defending champs out

The Under-20 division of the Coca Cola Secondary Schools’ Football Competition is nearing its quarter final stage, but without the 2004 and 2005 champion, the Intermediate High School.

The defending champion has failed to rekindle its form that led them to the successive titles.

In search of a hat trick of titles, Intermediate High went under 0-1 to Emmanuel High Mespo last week in a decisive encounter, to end their 2006 sojourn.{{more}}

Those in line hoping to be crowned as this year’s champion are the St Vincent Grammar School and the Emmanuel High Mespo, who have already secured places in the elimination round of eight.

The Barrouallie Secondary, Campden Park Secondary, St Clair Dacon, Dr JP Eustace and the Georgetown Secondary are the front runners to fill the remaining spots.

Unlike the senior division, the Under-16 division is not as definitive at this stage, as several matches are still to be played.

According to organisers, it is almost certain that last year’s losing finalist the Campden Park Secondary, the Barrouallie Secondary, Georgetown and Sandy Bay will earn quarter final berths.

Dr J P Eustace Secondary won the 2005 Under-16 competition.

This year’s version of the secondary schools’ football competition has not lived up to expectations as there has been a drastic fall off in standard of play.

Apart from the secondary schools, the various multi purpose centers across the state are participating in the competition. (RT)
