Ace track club heads pack in road relay clash

Josports Ace broke the stranglehold of Chatoyers on the Round D’ Town Road Relay staged by Team Athletics SVG last Sunday.

The combination of Ronica Williams, Raffique Providence, Charmant Ollivierre and Junior Ashton crossed the finish line at the junction of South River Road and Halifax Street in Kingstown first in 29 minutes 18.69 seconds.

Ashton who broke ranks with the former champions last year, to put in a superb performance to win the title, clipped Chatoyers, who had patented the event, on the last leg. Ashton, this country’s number two ‘ road warrior’ got the better of Omar Lavia on the final leg, after Chatoyers had opened up a 300-metre lead.{{more}}

Chatoyers competing without their top road athlete Pamenos Ballantyne returned a time of 29 minutes 42.72 seconds. Third in the open male category was new club X-Ceed in 30 minutes

38.71 seconds.

There was also a change at the top of the women’s category as one time power house in road races here Sion Hill rekindled community pride taking the first position.

Sion Hill finished in 37 minutes 32.89 seconds, led by Adelaide Carrington who returned to competitive road running, after one year self imposed sabbatical.

The secondary school male segment saw the Georgetown Secondary School triumphing.

The Girls High School copped the female division of the secondary category.

Among the primary entrants, the Stubbs Primary secured both the male and female categories.

Last Sunday’s four leg relay was the second event on the athletics body’s road racing calendar. The calendar began October 1, with the Junior Cross Country event at the Diamond Estate.

This weekend attention is given to athletes in the southern Grenadines with a 5K in Union Island.

The Independence 5 K and 10 K events are set for October 22.
