Sammy’s back

There are signs that Vincentian Sammy Carrington’s return as Technical Director of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) is not a long way off.

Carrington is once again on the ground and is visibly active in football matters.

It is likely that he will be in charge of the Under-20 squad that has advanced to the second round of the Caribbean Football Union’s competition, before taking over fully.{{more}}

The Under-20 team recorded a one hundred percent record at their St. Lucia outing, with coach Earl Samuel at the helm.

Newly elected First Vice President of the SVGFF Leopold Dopwell told SEARCHLIGHT recently that Carrington will be working along with one of the national teams in training.

He however stopped short of revealing if Carrington will be given the prestigious job of technical director.

Current technical director Zoran Vranes’ income has come in for harsh criticism recently in some quarters. Vranes receives US$6000 per month plus accommodation among other fringe benefits.

Carrington has overseen the soccer programme of St. Francis College in New York for the past 13 years. He has subsequently given up that post and has moved back home. Carrington is asking the SVGFF for US$4000 per month for his services.

He recently presented an 80 page developmental plan named “2018 -A dream team-a blue print for success”.

President of the SVGFF St. Claire Leacock said at a meeting of affiliates July 22, acknowledged receipt of the Carrington’s proposal and planned then, to give it consideration.

Carrington’s documented approach and time frames have exposed Vranes’ operations which over the past two years were centered on getting national teams prepared for regional and international competitions.

Carrington led this country’s senior outfit to the group stage of World Cup Qualifiers in 2000, but left in August that same year after the Louis Daisley led executive refused his offer of a three-year deal. His record stands at seven (7) wins and two (2) losses.

The Serbia Montenegro born Vranes has lived in the Caribbean for several years. He had previous stints in Antigua and Barbuda and Trinidad and Tobago, with the latter being his base.

Vranes record since taking over this country’s football technical set up in September 2004, shows 14 wins as against 19 losses, with five matches drawn.
