Saskia Diamond in pursuit of law career
National netballer Saskia Diamond is embarking on a career in Law, as she begins her first of three years of studies at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Barbados.
The fleet footed center is doing so on a scholarship from the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines available to national sportsmen and women.{{more}}
“I never dreamt of something like this, as I don’t have that kind of money”, Diamond admitted.
“But thanks to the Prime Minister I can do so”, she said.
“Now that I get the opportunity I plan to make the best of it”, the La Croix resident stated.
One who is not afraid to reveal her struggles in life, said, “It’s because of my trust in Almighty God, support from my mother and others that I have reached this far”.
The 20-year old petite Diamond played a pivotal role in this country’s successful recapture of the ECCB OECS Under-23 title, last week.
She was adjudged the Best Centre court player. Also a senior national player for the past three years, Diamond also represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the Under-16 as well as the annual Windward Islands Inter-Secondary Schools’ Games.
Hers follow that of former national netball captain Halimah De Shong and Geshelle Peters.
Diamond’s departure is on the heels of St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ and Windwardsâ opener Rommel Currency, who left also for Barbados to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. He was awarded a scholarship from the West Indies Cricket Board.
