Police torture victors

Police Two established a batting record in national cricket competition amassing 529 for nine against Victors One at the Sion Hill Playing Field last weekend.

Already certain of a place in the semi- finals of a shortened season, Police revelled in a depleted Victors team, with Rolando Wright hitting 112, former Windwards Under-19 wicket keeper Salvan Browne 95 and former St. Vincent and the Grenadines middle order batsman Oneil Thomas scoring 94.{{more}}

Wright’s century was laced with eight fours and four sixes.

Keron Cottoy toiled for Victors with the ball, taking 5 for 168. He returned to top his team’s batting stroking 64 along with Miles Bascombe who compiled 42, as the defending RBTT Premier Division champion responded with 163.

Burly medium fast bowler Othneil Baptiste took 2 for 40 and Malcolvin Jack 2 for 41.

Intent on grinding their opponents, Police enforced the follow on, but Victors stood firm and ended on 106 for 2.

The other two semi- finalists also faced each other at the main Arnos Vale Playing Field.

ECGC Radcliffe was routed for 98, undone by the consistent Olanzo Jackson 3 for 37 and Roland Wilkinson 3 for 14.

MVC Rivals replied with 151, led by Nicholas Baptiste’s 79. Delorn Johnson, the 2005 Young Cricketer of the Year took 3 for 14.

Batting a second time Radcliffe reached 127 for 9, when the match was called off.

Jackson had figures of 6 for 36 for Rivals. Osni Billingy topscored with 31 for Radcliffe.

The other scheduled Premier Division match brought together the News Spartans and Eat Rite Saints. Spartans made sure that they did not end up at the bottom of the zone taking first innings points.

Rommel Currency (53) and Caffique Martin (36) were the principal scorers as Saints managed 163. Crishna Da Silva took 7 for 47.

Spartans erased the score reaching 189, with Kissinger Mc Lean topscoring on 59, and the evergreen Darnley Joseph making 47. Norlan Williams 2 for 40, Dudley David 2 for 36 and Currency 2 for 22 shared the bowling honours for Saints.

At their second turn at the crease, Saints fared slightly better making 187. Currency again led the way with 64, and his Windward Islands teammate Kenroy Peters 38. Henry Haynes was the chief wicket taker with 4 for 11.

Set 163 for full points, Spartans with a reorganized batting order made a valiant effort reaching 144 for 4.

Roger Francois made 48 not out, with some hefty blows towards the end. Joseph made 41, and Joey Welcome was 27 not out when the last ball of the mandatory fifteen overs was bowled.
