New Paradise, champions of Leeward Football

Two goals from Emery Bailey were enough to put Fitz Hughes’ New Paradise on top as the new champions of North Leeward Football as they disposed of the Spring Village English Spurs two goals to nil in the final on Sunday.

Bailey who netted a goal in each half of play proved to be the trailblazer, closing Sunday’s encounter in dramatic fashion.{{more}}

A spirited 90-minute knock between both teams was enough action to satisfy football thirsty fans in the North Leeward area, after a postponement of the tournament in December.

Though reaching the final on two consecutive occasions, Sunday’s showdown was a lesson for the English Spurs once again, after going under to the Rose Bank Enforcers in 2003, when the tournament was last held.

Players from 13 teams are now awaiting an official closing ceremony in which a number of individual awards are up for grabs. This season’s tournament attracted a number of high profile players, including national striker Shandel Williams.

The 2006 tournament is scheduled to commence on September 3.
