CAVALIER HONOURS

The top performers in the 2005 Cavalier’s National Women’s cricket tournament were justly rewarded last Saturday night at a gala function at the Sugar Mill Inn.

Topping the list was Clea Hoyte of double crowned champion JG Tigress. Hoyte was named the Most Valuable Player for all-round efforts.{{more}}

She clipped Amanda Thorpe of Rangers who captured the most wickets (18). Thorpe recorded the best bowling figures. Her achievement came against Despers United when she had a match haul of 7 for 23 in 7 overs.

Samantha Lynch of United Survivors had the highest individual score in the tournament. The St.Vincent and

the Grenadines opening batsman stroked 84 versus Garifuna Stars, and was second in the batting aggregate with 161 runs.

Jean Blucher of the champions scored the most runs, 176 and had the highest unbeaten individual score, 82. Blutcher was also rewarded for having the second best batting average.

Also sharing the spotlight on the night was Rosetta Williams of United Survivors.

The plump Williams was the second highest wicket-taker with 16 scalps; she was also second in the bowling average. Only Thorpe bettered her 5 for 11.

Not to be outdone by the others, Uttian Thomas and Huretta Codougan received the consolation of the third placings. Both took 13 wickets, with Thomas’ bundle coming at 6.15 runs apiece.

In the wicketkeeping department, Nicole Samuel, a debutante on the SVG team to this year’s regional competition carved a name for herself by securing the Most Outstanding Wicketkeeper award. Her nine dismissals were the most by any behind the stumps.

The evergreen Celina Fraser was named Player of the Final of the Knock Out Competition and shared the third spot in the bowling aggregate with Hoyte, Thomas and Codougan. Fraser who missed out on national selection this year returned a batting average of 30.75, scoring 123 in five innings.

The two Player of the Semi-finals awards of that competition were taken by West Indies selectee Myschia George of JG Tigress and Lynch. Fraser was also third in the batting averages.

In the team awards, Total Eye Care Rose Bank was voted the Most Disciplined unit.

The top finishers in the Knock-out, JG Tigress and United Survivors were rewarded with trophies.

United Survivors docked in second in the league version with 20 points, ahead of third place Garifuna Stars on 16, and Rangers with 10.

The awards ceremony was a joint venture between the SVGWCA and the Cavalier’s Sports Club, a Vincentian organisation of New York.

Following the success of the first function, both parties promised that the event would be an annual affair.
