Lotteries netball tourney begins in Grenadines

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports through its Physical Education and Sports Department opened the 2005 National Lotteries Authority Grenadines Netball Tournament on Saturday October 15 at the Canouan Hard Court.

Eight teams will be participating in the tournament. The teams are Bequia, Bequia Community High, Canouan, Carriacou, Mayreau, Mustique, Union Island 1 and Union Island Secondary.{{more}}

At the opening ceremony representative from the National Lottery, Dougal James said that the National Lotteries Authority is proud to be in partnership with the SVG Netball Association and the netballers of the Southern Grenadines.

President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association Doris McIntosh congratulated the organizers of the Grenadines tournament. She also applauded the teams for the effort they made to be a part of the tournament.

Senator Edwin Snagg delivered remarks on behalf of the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Clayton Burgin. Senator Snagg thanked the National Lotteries Authority for the part they have played in the Sponsorship of the Grenadines tournament.

Among the persons making remarks at the ceremony was Terrence Ollivierre, Parliamentary representative for the Southern Grenadines. Ollivierre said the Grenadines Netball Tournament has benefited the people of the Grenadines in the development of their innate talent and in the improvement of their skills.

Opening matches were played by Canouan and Mayreau, Union Island, Mustique and Bequia Community High and Union Island Secondary.

The best dressed team was Union Island 11. Mustique placed second.

The Grenadines Netball Tournament started in 2000.
