Cricket Classics in Grenada again

Former Test cricketers from England and the West Indies stage a showdown in Grenada next month. Cricket lovers will get the opportunity to witness classic cricket.

Influenced by the success of their initial visit to Grenada one year ago, the “Virgin Cricket Classics” will return to Grenada from October 13 – 18, 2005 for a series of activities including a One-Day limited overs cricket match. {{more}}

The 20 x 20 game, which will be played at Progress Park in St. Andrew, is slated for Sunday, October 16, 2005. This will be preceded that same day by mini cricket tournament for children between the ages 11 to 13.

Apart from the cricketers, other members of the “Virgin Cricket Classics” will include a mix of twenty-two (22) journalists representing different publications.

A host of past Test players is slated for the match. Among players confirmed to represent the West Indies team are Joel Garner, Vivian Richards, Richie Richardson, Courtney Walsh, Roger Harper, Curtly Ambrose, Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes. The former England Greats will have the likes of Allan Lamb, Emburey, Derek Underwood, Bill Athey, John Morris, Lawrence, David Capel, and John Lever.

Two successful games involving these same teams were held at the National Stadium in 2004. It is believed that the interest that was shown for those two games will also be evident for this upcoming match.

A packed itinerary has been compiled to ensure that cricketers and journalists will have ample opportunities to appreciate reconstruction efforts, while enjoying activities and attractions of the island.
