Hooper is man of the series

Sheldon Hooper proved his worth with the man of the Series award for the just concluded Vinlec North Leeward Cricket tournament.

Hooper, a right-handed opening batsman, and wicket keeper for his team, played a pivotal role and helped Peto Stars to win the 2005 championship. {{more}}

Hooper blazed two centuries 199 and 136 and inevitably scored the most runs (427) in the tournament. His harvest was among six centuries hit during the tournament.

Hooper received the ‘Most Promising Wicketkeeper’ award at the prize giving ceremony which came off at the Petit Bordel Playing Field last Sunday.

Hooper returned home with a fair package, a collection of rewards for his exploits.

Nicholas Williams with 77 and two catches was named Man of the Match in the final. His performance propelled Peto Stars to a comfortable 143 run win over Enforcers. Dale Michael, another Peto Stars player took the award for most wickets with 21 scalps. A special award went to Andreas Neverson for his 9 for 54 playing for Somerset against Ajuba Two.

The other century makers were Orville Franklyn 122 (Enforcers), Kenny Stapleton (Ajuba Two) 108 not out, Kyren Caesar 117 for Smokey, and Rongel Small 132 for Peto Stars.

Also mounting the rostrum to be rewarded was Sherlan Barnwell.

Julius Anthony, president of the North Leeward Sports Association gave a review of the tournament, and projected on the staging of the football competition soon to get into high gear.

Area representative Dr. Jerrol Thompson used the occasion to remind listeners of his government’s commitment to sport as well as the overall development of the constituency and the nation as a whole.

National Sports Council’s representative Irvine Robertson also addressed the gathering.

A match between a North Leeward Sports Association XI and a Vinlec squad preceded the prize giving ceremony.

Then action shifted to football with a match between Vinlec High Voltage and a North Leeward team. That game ended one all.
