Bowlers take charge in Top Belair cricket

Bowlers were in such control last weekend in the National Lotteries Top Belair softball cricket competition that three teams could only manage in excess of 100 runs.

In the first game, Gairy Construction Stingers crushed Rivals by eight wickets.

Godwin Cumberbatch bagged 4 for 15 as Rivals was dismissed for 43. {{more}}

Stingers responded with 45 for 2 in 8.3 overs.

In a second match, the combination of Curtis Charles, 4 for 11 and Andre Hunte, 3 for 1, saw the demise of Vincom Nex Level for 88 from 23.1 overs.

Karib Cable Snipers fared worse halting at 52 all out.

Anthony Charles 4 for 8, Deptor Culzac 3 for 1, and Justin Lee 3 for 8, did the demolition job for Nex Level.

Yet another match saw Aunt Jobe’s Older Boys’ new recruit Brenton Bute, with figures of 4 for 17, and veteran player Freddie Campbell with 3 for 22, stop Fountain Rangers in their tracks for a meagre 50.

Older Boys rushed to 53 for 3 in just nine overs and three balls to record a comfortable seven-wicket triumph.

Other action saw Cyndale Five Roads secure a 91 run win over ASCO.

Five Roads made 124 in 18.3 overs, led by Newborn Joseph 33. Romano Hunte was ASCO’s most successful bowler taking 4 for 26.

ASCO was routed for a paltry 33. Demerius Daniel had the excellent figures of 4 for 6 for Five Roads.

The weekend’s feature match saw newcomers to the competition; East Bank making a superb start with a two-wicket win over New Track Guys.

New Track Guys made 120 in 24.2 overs. Eldon Morris was his team’s top-scorer with 27 while Amos Clarke helped himself to 3 for 5 for the debutantes.

Clarke completed a good outing making the weekend’s highest individual score 35, as his team rallied to 122 for 8 off 22.3 overs.

Morris crowned his batting, with 3 for 21 with the ball. Vernardo Primus chipped in with 3 for 10.

Kelbourney Bangers meets Stingers from 1:15 p.m.

At the competition’s venue the Dauphine Playing Field Saturday July 23.

Sea Operations Nah Fren Dem plays Irie Travel Fair Hall Falcons from 3:15.

Another newcomer to the competition, RSVG Police, faces Smirnoff Sugar Corner Giants from 9 am Sunday, followed by the CGM Novice versus Dr. Thomas Injectors from noon.

Kingstown Hill United will play Gomea Bombers from 3:15 in the final fixture.
