Slater, who turns 17 in July, will be the first Vincentian to be recruited for a squash scholarship in the United States. He hopes to make an impact on the Collegiate circuit in his first season for the Diplomats, who are currently ranked no. 16 in the College Squash Association’s National Men’s Team rankings. A Lower 6 student at the St. Vincent Community College, Slater will be pursuing pre-dentistry studies at Franklin and Marshall.

Recently he made a leap in the ESF World Boys Under 17 Rankings, rising from his January number 256 spot to his current position of 195.

Slater’s improvement is due to the addition of the British Junior Open results, which puts him 77 spots ahead of current Caribbean Under 17 Champ Christopher Binnie of Jamaica, who missed out on ranking events this season.

Other Caribbean players in the World Junior rankings are Caribbean Under 15 Champs -Cheri-ann Parris of Barbados who ranks number 39 for Girls Under 15 and Bermudan Robert Maycock at number 28 in the Boys Under 15.

Slater is currently in training for the Vita Malt Junior Open in Trinidad from April 1-3, and is hoping for further opportunities to compete at the international level and improve his game.
