Owren Mayers brings new skills to SVG auto services

Owren T Mayers is this country’s most recent graduate of the Universal Technical Institute (UTI), based in Orlando, Florida.

Owren spent most of the last three and a half years at the school, polishing up his already sharp skills as an automotive technician, and is ready to “let loose” his wealth of knowledge and experience to vehicle owners.{{more}}

The 25-year-old young man says he started with a basic course in automotive repairs at UTI, but his love for cars and their mechanism drew him into taking more advanced courses, which has now enabled and certified him to repair your luxury vehicle problems with the utmost confidence.

This includes the BMW, Audi, Lexus, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and other high end vehicles.

“I’m qualified to work on every single area on the car, except bodywork and straightening. Any problem you have with the vehicle, I could fix it: transmission problems, I can tear down and rebuild engines; every electrical or computer problem; everything on the car I would fix it,” Mayers said with enthusiasm.

“So, if a person with a BMW, for example, has an issue, they could check me, because I’m qualified to do the warranty work on BMW, which a lot of people can’t do, because with BMW they only choose a certain amount of technicians to work on a BMW car and file warranty work on it and I’m qualified to do that as well.

“There was a time when BMW owners had to get a technician to come to St Vincent to fix their vehicles; well, you don’t need to do that anymore, because we have our very own.”

Owren indicated that the Auto Diagnostic Clinic, coming soon in Diamond Estate, will be a state-of-the-art automobile garage, which would cater to the needs of every high-end vehicle owner in the country.

He said that the business will be equipped with high-tech and modern Autel Scanners and OTC equipment, which can make a diagnosis on the previously mentioned high-end automobiles.

It was no surprise that after graduating from the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua his quest for knowledge about vehicles led him to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, Division of Technical and Vocational Studies in Arnos Vale, while working part-time at Star Garage Limited in Kingstown.

At the Technical College, he successfully completed the NTCVET programme, a regionally certified course.

Mayers was deemed the best overall in his class of BMW FastTRACK

students.

“And also while I was at the Technical College and working at “Silky” (Star Garage) I also got the opportunity to get my training in Kia, so I travelled to Miami and train in Kia and I got certified in certain areas, like engine and transmission and I got my certificate in Kia.

“While I was at UTI, I also got my credentials for working on Ford vehicles (Automotive Technology with Ford Accelerated Credential Training “FACT”), and was working as an entry level Ford technician,” Mayers added.

He then went on to complete the BMW manufacture programmes, where he received all his BMW credentials and graduated top of the class.

The “Straight A student,” who was also Student of the Class, admitted that, as with any course of study, there were some challenges, but he overcame them with ease mainly because of his previous experience.

Owren used the opportunity to thank his tutors, friends and family for their support and encouragement given to him over the years, and looks forward giving drivers peace of mind, knowing that their vehicles would be in good hands.

“I would especially like to thank my dad Olmroy T Mayers, affectionately known as “OT” and my brother Orbilius T Mayers, because without their input and confidence in me this would not be possible,” Owren T Mayers stated.
