Prime Minister warns ULP team

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has warned he would crack the whip on any representative elected on the Unity Labour Party (ULP) ticket who may slump into laziness.

Dr. Gonsalves, reacting to the overwhelming support at the ULP’s political rallies, and especially the one on Sunday night at the Grammar School Playing Field where thousands of supporters had braved tropical wave conditions to express their support for the ULP, set a new benchmark which he and the public will use to assess the representatives.{{more}}

“There will be no tolerance of laziness,” warned Dr. Gonsalves in his emotional address, adding “there will be no tolerance among us of any lack of devotion to duty and there will be no separation from the candidates, from your representatives and you, which means that every single week we will have to come into the constituencies and be with you, not just at the constituency office but to go around in the constituencies, to have a proper political organization in place”.

Sunday night’s rally was staged to present the ULP’s candidates to the public. Dr. Gonsalves used the opportunity to disclose that each representative elected on the ULP ticket will be required to provide him as leader with a monthly report of what he or she has been doing in each constituency. He said this report will also be provided to the people.

Dr. Gonsalves said a mass national movement is taking place in St.Vincent and the Grenadines of which the ULP is at the helm. He said it is for progress and the re-election of the ULP.

He said the numbers which are turning up at the rallies have simply been astounding.

Dr. Gonsalves explained that there were persons who were suggesting Sunday night’s event be canceled but when he heard of the large number of persons who had braved the weather to be there he said: “We cannot cancel, we must go on in presenting the candidates because the people have shown their devotion and their love and we must respect that and return a similar love.”

At the end of the presentation Jamaican Reggae star Luciano, the featured act of the night, had the crowd rocking to several of his popular hits.

Luciano was presented by Prime Minister Dr. Gonsalves with a piece of art done by Roland “Scrapie” Dopwell.
