Man on bail for theft of cheques
Two men charged with the theft of US $2,100 worth of travellerâs cheques and over US $400 in cash were released on $10,000 bail last Thursday.{{more}}
Enos Providence, 44, of Bequia, and Mala Fergus, 36, of Mount Grennan were jointly charged with robbing John Connolly, a retired American, of US $450, 21 American Express travellerâs cheques valued US$2,100, one black Icon VHS marine radio valued US $300 and EC $20 cash at Friendship, Bequia, on September 4, 2009.
They were also jointly charged with having in their possession a quantity of travellerâs cheques reasonably suspected of being stolen or unlawfully obtained. Providence was also charged separately with the unlawful possession of two more cheques, reasonably suspected of being stolen or unlawfully obtained.
The men were allegedly found with the cheques on April 6, 2009. They pleaded not guilty to all charges when they appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Thursday, September 10, 2009.
Providence and Fergus were released on bail with one surety. They were also ordered to report to the Port Elizabeth Police Station every Monday and Friday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The case was adjourned until September 21, 2009.
