Meet the contestants of Miss SVG 2008

Emmelin ‘Emma’ John

Twenty-year-old Emmelin ‘Emma’ John, originally from Georgetown, migrated to Toronto, Canada, at the tender age of 11, where she continued her education at the Danforth Collegiate High School. In February 2008, her studies at the Medix College were interrupted when she was required to return to SVG to care for an ill relative. {{more}} John has a history of cosmetology, customer care and retail based jobs. She has a keen interest in pursuing a career in Social Work, with particular emphasis on domestic abuse.

Jolene Toney

Twenty-two year old Jolene Toney is a Registered Nurse, currently attached to the Georgetown district. Given her hectic job, she greatly enjoys her few moments of free time when she can indulge in meditation and relaxation. Her ultimate career goal is to become a Nursing Professor, as she gets a deep satisfaction from imparting the knowledge she possesses with others.

Karen Whiskey

Nineteen-year-old Karen Whiskey of Calliaqua is currently employed at Photo Max Studio as a Customer Service Representative. A past student of the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, she considers herself to have typically feminine interests with a streak of tomboyish-ness. Whiskey has ambitions of gaining a degree in Child Psychology and ultimately using her degree to teach upper primary and/or lower secondary school students.

LaToya Lewis

Twenty-year-old LaToya Lewis of Edinboro is a past student of the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, who is currently employed with the National Lotteries Authority. She is no stranger to beauty shows, and has previously taken part in the Miss Biker Babes competition, Miss Independence 2007 and Miss Unity Youth 2008 (although she was unable to compete in this on the night due to illness). Lewis intends to pursue a management-based career and says that by entering the Miss SVG pageant, she is fulfilling a dream that her (now deceased) father had for her and making him proud.

Nekesha Adams

Nekesha Adams, who will celebrate her 21st birthday on April 22nd, is a past student of the Union Island Secondary School. The Union Island lass has a history of being very much involved in school and sporting activities, and is no novice to the realm of talent shows and pageants. Her interest is in following a career in Business & Entertainment. Should the unthinkable occur and she is not able to fulfill said career, Adams has a back up plan – a career in Law.

Ronique Dellimore

Ronique Dellimore, who will be 23 years old on April 21st, is a past student of the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown who was very involved in both academic and extra-curricular activities while at school. Describing herself as a ‘tomboy’, Dellimore says that she has entered the Miss SVG pageant because she wants the opportunity to be an ambassador for SVG and to further her education. Currently employed at LIAT (1974) as an Administrative Assistant, her immediate goal is to embark upon a degree in Management Studies at the University of the West Indies.



Shanel Green

Twenty one year old Shanel Green is a past student of the St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua and is employed at the SVG Broadcasting Corporation as a Radio Announcer (Ezee Radio). Green is determined to pursue a career in Law and believes that, apart from affording her the opportunity to attain her career goal, entering the Miss SVG pageant will help her to learn more about herself, others and society in general. Green, possessing a true passion for Vincy Mas, volunteers as Public Relations Officer for the Melbourne Artisans Mas Band and regularly emcees at Junior Carnival.

Shanel Nanton

Twenty-year-old Shanel Nanton is a past student of the St. Clair Dacon Secondary School, located in Carapan. With a love of Country & Western music, Nanton considers artistes such as Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks to be her inspiration in life. They are hard working, successful and well respected – everything she wishes to be. Nanton’s two main goals are to graduate from university and to improve her career options.



Tamisha Nichols

Nineteen-year-old Bequia resident Tamisha Nichols is currently a student at the SVG Community College, where she is pursuing studies in Psychology, Physical Education and Communication Studies. Having recorded and released her first soca single (‘Love Your Way’) last year, Nichols has dreams of becoming a musician and songwriter. Despite her career goals, she is mindful not to neglect her academic education. Nichols believes that it is vitally important to make her love of music work together with her studies.
