Twenty-six graduate from SHESO training programme
Twenty- six young persons comprised the graduating class of the 2026 Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra’s (SHESO) Summer Training programme.
The cohort thus takes the total number of persons trained to more than 1,000 since the programme commenced in 1995.
Sunday, August 23, 2026 at the Sion Hill Village hard court, proved an auspicious occasion for the graduates, who enthusiastically relished the occasion to belt out the songs they learnt during the period of training- July 20 to August 21, 2026.
Under the guidance of Tillal Webb and Mikalla Knights, ‘Booty Call’, ‘Rivers of Babylon’ and ‘I Surrender All’, were executed with precision, much to the delight of those present.
Meanwhile, in his capacity as Chair of the SHESO,Tillal Webb, implored the parents and guardians to have their children or wards continue improving their craft by attending further training.
“I’m urging the parents, because most times the kids come to the Summer Programme and they don’t come back after that. So, I’m urging the parents to please send them back to practice because these kids graduate today will join the Junior Band to go to Junior Band number next year. We want to keep all of them, train them, make sure they keep into the Sion Hill fraternity.”
Joining Webb in congratulating the graduates were Parliamentary Representative for East Kingstown Fitzgerald Bramble; Chair of National Properties Tyrone James; as well as President of the Youlou Pan Movement Rodney Small; and Mikalla Knights who gave an overview of the five- week training programme.
