KCCU disburses scholarships and bursaries to 13 students

The Kingstown Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. (KCCU), handed out scholarships to 13 students who were successful in the 2026 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), and are preparing to enter secondary school in September.

In a release dated August 26, 2026, the credit union said the disbursement ceremony held on July 29, 2026 “…reaffirmed its commitment to educational advancement and youth development”.

Academic scholarships were awarded to Amiah Anderson of the Kingstown Preparatory School; Kelleigh Kirby of the Windsor Primary School; and Armani Ashton of the Kingstown Preparatory School.

Socio-economic scholarships were presented to Dominic Soleyn of the Fairhall Government School; Deondra Ollivierre of the Paget Farm Government School; and Xyrell Dopwell of the Kingstown Preparatory School. Joshua Sargeant, a member of KCCU’s staff, was also awarded a staff scholarship.

Bursaries were presented to Bryce Fitzpatrick of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic School; Nathan Williams of the Kingstown Preparatory School; T-Niah Nichols of the Windsor Primary School; Hailey Providence of the Kingstown Anglican School; Carlina Williams of the Spring Village Methodist School; and Renee Hutchinson of the Calliaqua Anglican School.

KCCU’s CPEA scholarships are awarded for a seven-year period, subject to each recipient maintaining satisfactory academic performance and demonstrating a continued commitment to his or her education, the release
notes.

“Beyond providing financial assistance, KCCU seeks to nurture well-rounded young people who understand and embrace the values of the co-operative movement. Awardees are therefore encouraged to practise consistent savings and responsible financial management, thereby helping to sustain the credit union movement for future generations.”

The financial institution also pointed out that scholarship recipients also benefit from annual retreats organised by KCCU.

“These retreats enable the Credit Union to maintain strong working relationships with its scholars, monitor their development and provide valuable mentorship opportunities involving previous scholarship recipients.”

Through this programme, KCCU said it continues to fulfil its corporate social responsibility by fostering educational development and investing in the holistic growth of young people.

“The Credit Union’s goal is to help develop capable, financially responsible and socially conscious individuals who are prepared to contribute positively to their communities and participate confidently as future global citizens.”
