Alpha Studios seeking to revitalise Theatre Arts in SVG

A local media, film, and entertainment entity plans to take “a bold step” towards reshaping the local performing arts landscape with the launch of the LOL Comedy Concert in October.

Alfa Studio said in a release that the event will be an innovative theatrical production that seeks to reignite public interest in live theatre while creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation of performers.

It pointed out that while the production promises an evening of laughter through original Caribbean-inspired comedy, its mission extends far beyond entertainment, the studio said in a release. The LOL Comedy Concert has been developed as part of a broader vision to revitalize theatre arts in St. Vincent and the Grenadines by making live stage productions exciting, relevant, and accessible to modern audiences.

“Live theatre has always had the power to bring people together, tell our stories, and reflect our culture–The LOL Comedy Concert is about reminding people just how exciting theatre can be while creating a space where local talent can thrive,” Executive Director of Alpha Studios, Javed DaSouza said.

As part of this initiative, Alpha Studios said it is partnering with secondary schools that offer Theatre Arts programmes, providing outstanding students with the opportunity to perform alongside experienced actors in the production.

“Selected students will receive professional performance experience on a major stage while being compensated for their participation, demonstrating that excellence in the performing arts can lead to real opportunities,” the Alfa Studio release has promised.

“The collaboration is designed to inspire young creatives, strengthen school theatre programmes, and encourage more students to pursue the performing arts with confidence and purpose.

“By bridging the gap between education and the professional stage, Alpha Studios hopes to cultivate a stronger pipeline of actors, writers, directors, and theatre practitioners who will help sustain the industry for years to come.”

The release also stated that the LOL Comedy Concert is combining comedy, storytelling, music, and relatable Caribbean experiences into a high-energy theatrical event designed to appeal to audiences of all ages, while at the same time, serving as a reminder that theatre remains a vibrant and important part of Vincentian culture. The plan is to establish the production as an annual event.

Alfa Studios said the LOL Comedy Concert is set to premiere on October 24, 2026, and will be a paid event that it being done in collaboration with Jungl Lounge SVG, and IKTV 112 as part of their Tales from 784 entertainment initiative.
