PM Friday reaffirms commitment to renewable energy
Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to expanding the use of renewable energy as part of efforts to strengthen this country’s resilience to climate change.
He made the statement during an interview with the Agency for Public Information (API) at a cocktail reception held at the Holiday Inn on Tuesday evening, June 9, 2026. The reception followed the United Nations Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Development Partner
Roundtable Discussion, held under the theme “From Recovery to Transformation and Resilience” which brought together government officials, development partners, and other stakeholders to examine the challenges posed by climate change and explore strategies to support sustainable development throughout the region.
During the interview, the prime minister highlighted ongoing efforts to increase the use of solar energy, noting that renewable technologies will play an important role in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and improving energy security. He also underscored the importance of collaboration with the private sector to accelerate the adoption of solar technologies and encourage greater investment in clean energy initiatives.
Dr. Friday said these efforts form part of the government’s broader vision to create a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for St. Vincent and the Grenadines while supporting long-term economic and environmental goals. (API)
