WP Orthopaedic team evaluates 58, conducts 18 surgeries at MCMH
A general Orthopaedic team from World Paediatrics conducted evaluation and surgeries for several children at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital during a mission from April 12-18, 2026.
The medical specialists evaluated and provided corrective surgical care for children from St. Vincent and the Grenadines and neighbouring islands of Barbados, St. Lucia, Dominica, Grenada, as well as Jamaica, who have orthopaedic conditions such as Blount’s disease, a WP release states.
Led by Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Mark Miller, the team of nine evaluated a total of 58 children on clinic day and successfully performed 18 paediatric orthopaedic surgeries. Dr. Miller was joined by Dr. Parker Zimmerman – Orthopedic surgery resident; Dr. TJ Lockhart Anaesthesiologist; Dr. Lauren Castello Anaesthesiology fellow; Sabrina Huston Orthotist; Tracy Pryzbylski Physical Therapist; DeWayne Johnson OR Technician; Jill Hahn RN Nurse; and Malley Gautreaux Ortho-Paediatrics Company Representative. Local representation and support were provided to the team by Dr. Jasmine Davy-Ellis General Surgeon; Janelle Ballah Physical therapist; Dr. Dwight Richards Medical Officer in Orthopaedics MCMH; and local nurses.
Dr. Miller, reflecting on the surgical week, noted that this marked his sixth visit to the island and expressed his continued commitment to supporting the initiative. He also conveyed his appreciation for the local physicians and medical staff whose support was instrumental throughout the week, as well as for the children and families they serve. Meanwhile, Dr. Zimmerman, visiting for the first time, described the experience as “impactful”.
World Paediatrics, its volunteers, and the families have extended sincere gratitude to both the Mustique Charitable Trust and Tawani Foundation for their meaningful sponsorship towards this team and its continued commitment to improving access to specialized surgical and diagnostic care to children in the Caribbean.
