Stubbs Police Youth Club donates gift baskets to children
Members of the Stubbs Police Youth Club on Monday, December 19, presented gift baskets to 11 children in the community.
A release from the police said this was the club’s final community project for this year which was executed under the theme:
“Love in Action”.
The 11 recipients are children who lost one or both parents in recent years.
Area Coordinator, Corporal Lovitha Boyea, said initially only five children were ear-marked as beneficiaries “However, we discovered that there were more children who fit the criteria and as such, we made a decision to increase the number of recipients and value of the baskets.”
The deputy-co-ordinator, Yolande London noted the difficulty experienced in losing a loved one which “can bring some challenges, especially for children and we are ready and willing to stand in the gap and with our children because they need that support.”
The initiative received sponsorship from FLOW, Digicel and SAGICOR who were commended for their input.
“We are thankful and happy that these companies have stepped up and honoured their corporate social responsibility,” said London.
The ceremony also heard brief remarks from assistant superintendent of police, Junior Simmons; SAGICOR representatives, Alicia Pilgrim; National co-ordinator of Police Youth Clubs, sergeant Stephen Billy; and area representative, Minister of the Public Service, Sports, etc, Frederick Stevenson.
Club members, relatives and well-wishes were on hand to support the children.
