20 artistes to clash at the Royal Rumble this Sunday

The stage is set for a ‘Royal Rumble’ at Solidarity Inc Car park this Sunday, June 26 as 20 semifinalists in both the ragga soca and soca categories prepare to battle it out for 10 spots in the 2022 Ragga Soca and Soca Monarch competitions.

Its the third event on the calendar of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) for Vincymas 2022.

Coordinator of Shows, Anthony Dennie speaking at a press conference on June 15, encouraged persons to come out to the event which will be prefaced with a street jump up around Kingstown.

“We will include some elements of the festival over the years; the boozy back, the stilt walkers, those types of things will be part of the lead up before we get into the Solidarity car park,” Dennie said.

He told media representatives that there has been an overwhelming response from young soca artistes for the season and he commended them for “taking the bull by the horns” and coming forward to participate.

He noted though, that there was need for guidance in some aspects, particularly as it relates to lyrical content, but praised the young talent for the effort they have put into the art form this year.

Dennie also commended veteran artistes who have improved upon their craft for the staging of Vincymas 2022 and declared that it will be “quite a festive and energy-filled carnival”.

The reigning Ragga Soca Monarch is Hans John, and the reigning Soca Monarch is Derron ‘Magikal’ Rouse.

Tickets for ‘Royal Rumble’ are on sale for $30 pre-sold and $40 at the gate.

The show is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m on Sunday.
