SVG Coast Guard receives new engines from Dominica

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard Service has received two new Mercury 300 Horsepower Verado engines from the government and people of Dominica.

These engines, which were donated last month, will assist the Coast Guard in its relief and security efforts after the explosive eruptions of the Soufriere volcano, a release states. The logistics support and co-ordination for the delivery of these engines was done through the Military Liasion Office of the Embassy of the United States of America, Bridgetown, Barbados; and the United States Southern Command’s Technical Assistance Field Team.

The engines were installed on Coast Guard vessel SVG 02, which is one of three SAFE boat interceptors donated by the Government and people of the United States of America, under its Caribbean Basin Security Initiative. These SAFE boats were used in the maritime evacuations of 108 residents from Owia during the explosive volcanic eruptions.

The Coast Guard Commander, Commissioner of Police, people, and Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines expressed a heartfelt thank you to the Government and people of Dominica and the United States of America for the donation and co-ordination of the delivery of these engines.
