CIBC First Caribbean celebrates on International Women’s Day

Around 30 female members of staff at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank marked International Women”s Day- March 8- with a virtual, interactive session called Fruit, Fun & Fellowship which had as guest speaker Dr. Janelle Allen, of Millennial Advantage HR Solutions, a locally based Human Resource Management consultancy which provides HR support services to businesses and career coaching for job seekers.

Her presentation was centred on the theme: Choose to Challenge: Change starts with me”.

The bank said in a release this was in demonstration of its continued commitment to celebrating and enabling women leaders on International Women’s Day 2021.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” and #choosetochallenge.

Country Head, Shelly Ann Samuel, said, “It’s important to me that CIBC FirstCaribbean makes an impact that matters for women. On International Women’s Day 2021, I’m pleased to say that we at the bank are committed to improving the working life of our women and enabling the success of our female leaders.”

She pointed out that putting this commitment into practice involves multi-faceted ongoing leadership, courage, and commitment.

“We were this year again encouraging business units within the bank to mark International Women’s Day 2021 (Monday March 8) with either mentorship of other young women, donation to women’s charity or whatever they saw fit to add to the what this year’s theme means to them as women and as leaders in their own right,” Samuel said.

“It isn’t good enough to accept that women face barriers in the workplace. We all have a part to play in enabling the success of women. We were and continue to be committed to creating meaningful change in the wider business community with our diversity and inclusion by creating an environment that fosters inclusion and accelerates diversity in banking,” she added.

As an added touch of appreciation, the bank said it provided the ladies with fruit packages during the session.
