Rsvgpf Police Welfare Association elects a new executive

A 23 year veteran of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police force, (RSVP), Corporal Lez Harry, is the new Chair of the Police Welfare Association (PWA).

Cpl Harry, who replaces Station Sargeant, Brenton Smith, had his position ratified at a general meeting of the constabulary force held on January 24, at which four persons were nominated to contest for three available posts on the Senior Branch Board, a release from the PWA states.

Sergeants Daniel Prescott, Marilyn Burke and Rochelle Smith emerged as the representatives for the Senior Branch; Corporals Lez Harry, Shacky Greene, Colin May and Germano Douglas will be the representatives of the Intermediate Branch Board; while Constables Moise Cummings, Kenroy Martin, Renford Samuel, Rohan Howard and Sherika Gordon were elected to be the representatives of the Junior Branch Board.

Superintendent of Police, Kamecia Blake-Byam, the officer in charge of Central Division, presided over the elections.

Earlier, on February 6, the general membership met to select the chairperson of each branch board, the General Secretary and the overall chairperson to oversee the mandate and run the affairs of the association.

Sergeant Rochelle Smith was selected as chairperson of the Senior Branch; Corporal Lez Harry as Intermediate chairperson; and Constable Moise Cummings as Junior Branch chairperson. Constable Somorow Quashie was appointed as the General Secretary.

The new chair of the PWA noted that it would be a mammoth task trying to fill the boots of Station Sargeant Smith, who served as chair for two periods, from 2006-2013 and again from 2017-2020. He opted not to seek re-election so that a younger person, with fresh ideas, could emerge to take on the top leadership position in the association.

However, Harry, who served for the past three years as chairman of the Intermediate Branch Board ,said that he will not be attempting to fill those boots, but rather, build on the tremendous work of his predecessor.

He thanked Station Sergeant Smith for his contribution, noting that he served the organisation well, but also assuring that he and his executive will work hard and do their best with the support of the general membership.

The new Chairman has also pledged that the new team will foster and forge a good working relationship with the hierarchy of the RSVP.
