A&E to get $15,000 make over courtesy FLOW

A donation of EC$15,000 to the Ministry of Health by telecommunications services provider FLOW will help improve the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).

The donation was made last Tuesday at the A&E Department and saw Minister of Health Luke Browne receiving the donation from FLOW’s Country Manager Wayne Hull.

The health minister said the money will be used to spruce up the waiting area of A&E, add televisions, fix the bathroom facilities, paint the department, add water fountains and several other positive features. He is also hoping that FLOW throws in an adequate cable television package.

“This is a significant development where we have a private sector entity thinking that their corporate social responsibility requires them to come forward and make a donation to the improvement and upgrade at the A&E department,” commented Browne.

He added that there are individuals who point to all the things that need to be fixed without making a gesture towards fixing these things, so the Ministry is delighted at FLOW’s move towards fixing, upgrading and refurbishing this department.

“We think that is essentially a first step that would be a part of a long journey in this arrangement,” said Browne, while adding that FLOW has in the past contributed to projects at the paediatric ward.

The health minister also took the opportunity to invite members of the community and other entities to do what they can to improve the quality of healthcare.

Commenting, Hull said the company he heads locally not only connects communities, but they also contribute to those communities.

“…and this is an example of our partnership with the government…and the hospital to improve the lives of patients and the lives of Vincentians on a whole.

“The A&E, we are of the opinion that this is an important institution to the entire country, and it was easy for us to make this decision to come on board and support the upgrade and the improvement of the facilities here,” said Hull.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Cuthbert Knights described the A&E project as a public private sector partnership.

He said that Ministry is interested in improving the lives of persons in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and they have been doing that and the improvement to the A&E will help with serving persons.

The handing over ceremony was attended by among others, hospital administrator Grace Walters and senior marketing and corporate communications manager at FLOW Nikala Williams.
