West Indies cricket again

Editor: The West Indies cricket team has shown some improvements in their performances and has brought some smiles and hope to its many fans and supporters. While, we are glad for its improvement as a team, the real strength of the team is the bowling. The bowlers, for most part, have been carrying the weight of the team and is largely responsible for its successes thus far.

We should have won the ODI series against New Zealand if the batters had done a better job by putting more runs on the board and giving the bowlers something more to work with. In the fourth match, the bowlers almost gave us a series win, had it not been for an important drop catch. Well, done bowlers!

In the first test match against Pakistan, again it is the bowlers who really and honestly brought success.

Yes, there were some good batting performances in the first inning, but it was really the bowlers in both innings that brought us success. Well, done bowlers!

It is time we look at our batters.Yes, against Sri Lanka we had some good batting performances, but that consistency is lacking and especially against good spinners. Efforts must be made to have improved performances by the batters. One of the ways is to have more first class matches at regional levels in each territory, and also have our batters go on contracts, not in T 20, but in county cricket and even in countries like Australia and India and have them play first class games.

The above mentioned requires finances which is one of the major problem facing CWI at this time.

According to an audited report from CWI, the balance as at September, 30th 2024 was [just over]$46,000 to a position where ICC had to lend CWI 12 million US dollars. So, the question is, why CWI is in such a financial position?

We continue to wish the West Indies cricket team all the best and hope that it will continue to improve.

We know that we are in a difficult position to automatically qualify for the world cup. This again is due to lack of good batting performances. Let us hope we would see an improved batting performance and one that is consistent. In the meantime, let us rally around the West Indies.
