Grace and Law- 2
EDITOR: Kindly grant me the space to continue a thought on the topic above.
God did not leave it to Moses to tell the children of His covenant about His Law. Exodus 20 opens this way… And God spake all these words, saying I am The Lord Thy God. How then do we arrive at the misconception that the ten commandments are the crafting of Moses ? Certain texts were wrested from their intended meanings. John 1- 17 says, For the law was given by Moses, but Grace and Truth came by Christ. Nothing here indicates that the ten commandments were the brainchild of Moses. Isaiah 33- 22 says For The Lord is our judge, the Lord is our Law giver, the Lord is our King, He will save us. Who is this Lord who is our judge, our Saviour and our soon coming King ? The same who is our Law giver. Isaiah 42- 21 says The Lord is pleased for his Righteousness sake, He will magnify the Law and make it honourable. John wrote about a new commandment, but before he said, he wrote, No new commandment but that which was from the beginning. Leviticus 19-18 and Deuteronomy 6-5 speak to the commandments having been pre-ambled with Love to God and love to our neighbour.
Someone looks at Galatians 3-19… Wherefore then serveth the Law ? It was added because of transgressions…. Are we to understand that the law was added because we broke the law? Transgression is the breaking of the law according to 1.Jn 3- 4 . If it was added, it means that it was not there before. We have heard of several laws , the law of commandments contained in ordinances Ephesians 2-15 for example. Let us rightly divide the word of truth. Psalm 19 describes the commandments as just and true, perfect, leading to the converting of the soul.
Our problem lie not with the Law but with our nature as is outlined in Jeremiah 13-23. Christ death on Calvary provided the launchpad to our victory over our carnal nature, so that the Righteousness of the Law can be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Speaking to Nicodemus Jesus said: Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. We ought to be renewed with strength through the Spirit in our inner man. Ephesians 3-16. Remember this- He who turns his ear away from hearing the law, even his prayers shall be an abomination. Proverbs 28-9 tells us that God guides the humble and teachable ones. He uses foolish things to bring down the established things. 1 Cor 1: 28.
