Make the work environment healthy

EDITOR: Workers in the work place must feel comfortable and belong to get the best of production. We are conscious of the fact that workers are very important and that they can make or break any institution and government. So, the environment goes a long way in getting the best out of workers.

We know that many workers come from different backgrounds and political and religious persuasions.

Political and religious persuasions can sometimes become a challenge in the work place by workers.

Political affiliation can sometimes be used as a determining factor in a person’s loyalty and dedication, and it can also become the downfall of some.

Efforts must be made to make the work place a healthy environment.

The workers in the work place ought to live like a family, but we know it is easier said than done, since we are dealing with humans from various backgrounds, religious and political persuasions. Each worker must feel comfortable and belong.

For when workers feel that they don’t belong, they can lack the confidence and dedication, knowing that they can be removed at any time.

So the best is not done by the worker, since the worker works knowing that he or she has to look over their shoulder. They can feel pressured and so they might just be doing their work not with confidence and for the love of it, since that worker can expect to be removed at any time.

When a worker feels belonging to the work place, they would want to give of their best, feeling comfortable and not under pressure. So, the best can come out of that person.

Sometimes, in the work place there is preferences and bias; let us also not forget abuse. These are amongst some of the many things workers face in the work place. When these things occur, the environment is unhealthy and creates tension in the work place. This is a recipe for poor performances in the work place.

Workers, must feel comfortable and must feel appreciated. They must know that when they give of their best they can be recognized and appreciated, but when there are preferences, bias and abuse workers can become bitter and so resort to work not with energy but because of a salary. They can also feel as though injustices were done to them. This can lead to poor performances in the work place and also a lack of trust.

There [is much] that can be said about workers in the work place.

However, I would just mention this one. There are some workers who feel that they own the work place and have the backing of politicians and others in authority. These workers sometimes do very little, since according to them, no one can do them anything, since according to them, they are backed by those in authority.

In the work place there ought to be freedom of expression, even to be critical. In the work place it should be a healthy environment where workers can work freely without pressure and with confidence.

Let us create a healthy environment in the work place where each worker can feel comfortable in the work place and where they do not have to look over their shoulder but can work in peace and comfort and so give of their best. Let us remember that no one is better than anyone. May God bless SVG.
