When does a new day begin ?
Let me begin by stating that my quest is not that of a dogmatic stickler with intentions of beating down any previously upheld traditions or teachings . My aim is just to reveal my findings on the issue. The majority hold that the day cuts off at midnight; while a minority religiously state that sunset is the boundary divider. My contribution is that of a denominational nonconformist .
While studying the Bible I came upon a text in Matthew 28:1 which reads … ‘
In the end of the Sabbath, as it was beginning to dawn towards the first day of the week…’.
Having been previously indoctrinated for 48 years into believing the day began and ended at the setting sun, I decided to double check my source of reference. Here was information saying otherwise. Not willing to place myself under the curses pronounced in Revelation 21: 18 and 19, against anyone adding to or taking away from the Bible, I looked up Leviticus 23: 27 and 32. Here the day of atonement, Yom Kippor as it is celebrated even in present time by the Jews, one of several Sabbaths, was being mentioned, verse 27 states the celebration as on the tenth day of the seventh month. Verse 32 added “It shall be a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls in the ninth day at even, from even to even shall ye celebrate your sabbath”. It is clear here that the celebration slated for the tenth day actually began the evening before, the evening before was not the tenth day. I went back to Matthew 28: 1, and for the first time, after 48 years, I decided to begin my sabbath observation at the dawn of the seventh day, ‘foreday morning’ as we say in our language.
Open your eyes, your understanding, you who say you keep the Sabbath holy !!! Thank you in advance of a positive response !
