Setting bush fires is no joke

Editor: Lighting bush fires for some is fun. But it is a dangerous practice and can be very destructive and not fun at all.

We are observing there is an increase in bush fires around the country. This practice must stop, and if the persons who lit the fires are caught, they should be heavily punished. Come to think seriously about it, when fires are lit to bushes on the hillside and other locations it destroys the top soil; so when it rains heavily, it can cause serious erosion of soil. When the soil is eroded, houses and properties can be destroyed from landslides, since the soil is now loose. The unfortunate thing in this case is that the landslide can destroy houses and properties of persons who are vulnerable and it can also do the same for even our own relatives and friends. The occupants are then homeless in many cases, and would have lost a considerable, if not all of their belongings. Added to that is the fact that persons can die as a result of the land destroying homes where persons would have been occupying in the time of the landslide.

The grass can help to keep the soil together and make safety more a reality. In some cases, the soil that is now removed can expose boulders. These boulders can in time roll on people’s houses and so we can have the occurrence of death due to the fact that the soil is eroded because of the bush fires.

With the rocks exposed and likely to roll out and onto persons’ property, can result in death and destruction to properties. These destruction can have serious affects, like the loss of lives and utility poles and pipelines.

I, therefore call upon those who are involved in these acts to stop it. I want us to think of the serious danger and risk we are causing. Sadly, our loved ones and friends can be a victim. Also, it is important that when these perpetrators are caught, they should be severely punished. We know it is illegal to light these bush fires. The unfortunate thing is that it is in many cases hard to find the persons who do this thing. But, it is possible for someone to be caught.

Let us live and let our brother live. Let us not take pleasure in seeing the destruction of others and their property, for what we sow we will reap and things have a way of coming back to haunt us.
