Graduation – Some Thoughts

by Michael S. Peters ©

Graduation!

Everywhere you look
Graduation!
Pictures of graduands posing proudly, with friends and family
Smiling, looking great, holding up a certificate
So cool that you finish school
Graduation!
Yes it is that season
From Community College down to early childhood education
Everyone planning, getting caught up in the occasion
An occasion to wear a suit, the shortest and latest fashion
Gowns, expensive dresses, smiles, well wishes
Some spending plenty money on the ball and proms
That they couldn’t find to pay to write exams

But what exactly is a graduation ceremony
Is it that you have successfully completed a prescribed course of study?
Or now simply your time has ended at a particular educational facility?
Shouldn’t it wait until you get your results and pass
Before you get a certificate to say you graduate?
Because a lot participate and they still functionally illiterate
You should not be awarded if you failed or played the fool while in school

The principal, head teacher, government minister and featured speaker
Those invited, who try to be wise and give advice
Say things that sound nice
Like: the sky is the limit
Aim high you will reach it
Whatever your mind can conceive and believe
That you can achieve
You can be who you want to be
Forgetting the reality of the economy, no money
And with their grades, course of study and academic capability
Many won’t get into university
A Bsc, Msc, Phd some will never see
And worst a j.o.b
So without hope those who can’t cope
Turn to gangs, crime, alcohol and dope
Set up, fed up, giving up, they light up, shoot up
A menace, a mental case, another life waste

Wrong!
Change the narrative and advice you give
To: live as God wants you to live
Be who God wants you to be
Let The Good Shepherd lead you in paths of righteousness
According to His will, direct your path and order your steps

Those who give the valedictory speech
Usually preach: we reach
We sink, we swim, we rise we fall
But thru it all…

Stop!
Listen to the Apostle Paul
As he gave the greatest graduation speech of all….
I have fought a good fight
I have finished my course
I have kept the faith
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness
Which the Lord, the righteous judge
Shall give me at that day
And not to me only
But unto all them also that love his
appearing
Thus in 2 Timothy chapter 4 you know for sure
He’s ready to graduate to heaven’s gate

So in all of this some questions:
Is the thesis on your life ready and worthy of submission?
Have you completed the prescribed course of holy living?
Are you ready for that important final graduation
To join God’s son with a spiritual
certification
Sanctified and qualified to receive a saintly degree
With a first class heavenly eternity?
Graduation – some thoughts!
