Present disasters are warning signs of global destruction ahead!

EDITOR: Things will not continue the same around us. Great changes are happening to the earth. At any moment our physical circumstances can drastically change, as in the case of our Caribbean neighbours in Barbuda and Dominica. In a matter of hours, their situation moved from a normal life to total displacement and horror. The nytimes.com described Barbuda as “being in ruins” after the passage of Hurricane Irma. In reporting on the island’s state of destruction, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda said it was “heart-wrenching”. Other reports of the devastation have described it as “beyond recognition, catastrophic, unprecedented, annihilation and apocalyptic”. A few days ago, Dominica suffered too. Hurricane Maria struck the country. Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit lamented about the “fury of the wind…” during the passage of the storm. These expressions draw our mind to events of the very last days of earth’s history. Current disasters are indeed foreshadows of the great global devastation to take place just before Jesus Christ puts in His appearance.

The careless and doubtful may scoff at the Christian when they are reminded that the increase in these destructive events is one of the signs that Christ’s coming is near and foreshadows the grand global destruction. They do not realize that this obvious reality is not a creation of the Christian. They are words from the Author of the Universe, Jesus Christ – “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring…” Luke 21: 25-26. He shows that these events will precede His second Coming. “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh” Vs 28.

There are some who deliberately seek to take our minds from the spiritual realities of God’s signs. It seems that the occurrence of a disaster presents another opportunity to cry “climate change”. And the majority of persons accept it in a wholesale manner. They overlook the Divine Authority and stifle the convictions that the Holy One is constantly giving to awaken our consciousness of the times and the need of heart change.

The Bible informs us that God will not plead for ever. His judgment will come as a whirlwind (hurricane) upon those who continually reject His warnings and harden their hearts in rebellion. And we know that the Just One who is LOVE, does not send destruction before warning. In writing the Revelation that Christ gave to him, John tells us of world destruction to take place under the last (7th) plague of God. “…And there were voices, and thunders and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake such as was not since men were upon the earth…”Revelation 16:17-21.

We marvel at the hurricane ravaged countries and we are saddened, but a time is coming when this entire earth will be desolate. Only a few persons will be left. Why is this destruction coming? “The earth is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant” (see Isaiah 24:1-6; Exodus 31-13-17). The Bible shows that the everlasting covenant is the Sabbath.

Rebellion against the Most High is not a light matter. Today when you hear His voice, harden not your heart. Allow Him to remove the stony, carnal heart that is in you and to give you a soft, spiritual mind that would motivate obedience to all of His Commandments. The only security we have is in Jesus, through His words abiding in us. Let us take His warning signs seriously, so that we would not be destroyed in the global catastrophe that lies ahead.
