Letter to the Commissioner of Police (Ag)
Dear Sir,
I am asking you the same favour that I asked your predecessor and that is for you to assign an officer at the site of the cenotaph during the Carnival season, especially during JâOuvert.
In 2014 and 2015, I made this request via the newspaper and each year the cenotaph escaped being defaced. I was unable to do so in 2016 and I assume, with his pending retirement, the Commissioner forgot to assign that duty and subsequently the cenotaph was vandalized with purple paint.
As usual, I have no faith in the entity that is responsible for the preservation of this historical monument. It languished, covered in increasing amounts of paint for over six years before I began complaining about it via this medium. I firmly believe that it was finally cleaned in 2013, because I mentioned that pictures of it were scheduled to be placed on Facebook that year. The fact that the purple paint that was used to vandalize the cenotaph in 2016 is still on it in 2017 supports my low opinion.
So, I turn to you, Sir, and continue my appeal for help in safeguarding this historical monument. Please assign a police officer to stand guard in the cenotaphâs enclosure for this Carnival season, during the evenings and early mornings of the remaining days of the Carnival and especially during JâOuvert. Help us protect it from the ignorant and the uncaring.
Sincerely yours,
Lisa
