Incest is fast becoming an acceptable practice

Recent developments, where a mother and son in the USA are planning on getting married, have given rise to concern. It asks the vexing question, “What is this world coming to?” We should never allow and encourage this practice. It is a sin of the highest order.

This practice is fast becoming an acceptable practice. Raising its ugly head is the sexual affair of stepfathers and stepmothers with stepchildren. While it is debatable as to whether it is INCEST or not, this practice should also not be condoned. The sad thing, though, is that many times, both practices are kept under cover because of fear. The mothers are afraid to lose the man who interferes with her child. For, if she reports him, she would no longer get his money. While in the case of incest again there is a fear that it would look bad on the person who does it and also the victims would feel ashamed. So, for these reasons and more they are kept under cover.

We in society have a responsibility to protect the children. So child molestation from step-parents must be dealt with and so incest, which is still illegal in SVG, must be dealt with severely.

It is my prayer and hope that INCEST would not become legal here in this blessed land of ours, where a parent can legally marry his/her child. What a shame when this becomes a reality.

These developments remind us of what the Bible says in Matthew 24:37: “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” It is but a timely reminder as to how close we are to coming of the Lord.

It is therefore time for us to turn to God and look for his return. Let us continue to pray for our nation. For we are told also in Psalm 9: 17, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.”

May God help us as a people to seek righteousness and turn away from evil. God bless SVG.
