I would like to congratulate, thank and encourage all of the people who give of their time and talents to the development of the nation. It is appropriate at this time to reflect on the nation in terms of its political development. Let us then recall, in particular, the first elected representatives following universal suffrage in 1951.{{more}} I would like at this time to highlight and remember these early representatives of the then eight constituencies:

1) Rudolph Elliott Baynes (Kingstown)

2) Julian Augustus Baynes (St George)

3) George Hamilton Charles (Central Windward)

4) Ebenezer Theodore Joshua (North Windward)

5) Evans Berkeley Morgan (South Windward)

6) Samuel Eric Slater (North Leeward)

7) Clive Leonard Tannis (The Grenadines)

8) Herman Fraser Young (South Leeward)

In terms of history and continuation, St Vincent and the Grenadines is fortunate today to have citizens who are documenting and publishing their thoughts and ideas. This augurs well for future generations. They will be able to have first-hand local information at their disposal and this will serve them well in the future development of the nation. Each generation stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before them.
