Enough is enough

Fri, May 23, 2014

Editor,

Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

Let us not forget that we have some wonderful parents out there who do what it takes each day to provide for their children physically and emotionally. On the other hand, there are some parents who do not care at all about their children.{{more}} God’s words, however, are there to teach us so that we can teach them and if they fail to listen, they will suffer the consequences. We cannot give up on them; pray for them and let God do the rest.

Sometimes I do cry for our young people and ask my elder in church, what can we or the church do for them or who must we blame? The answer was “parents.” I think he is correct. Parents, we need to do something before it is too late, because anger and depression turn our lovely children into criminals.

Do you remember the last time you were angry with someone or about something you did or did not do? This can lead to depression and this is an extreme emotion. It will not be good for you or to someone if you let the fire of rage go on burning inside, because this rage can hurt someone; we may say our life is hard, unfair and cruel; you may think that you are useless or that you cannot cope, but Jesus is there. He said to just cast your cares upon him because he cares for you. He died to set us free! Remember, the extra energy which is built up inside can be released, and turned into a nasty, frustrated sort of tension which leads to stress. Your mind is not able to relax and your body can be harmed physically and mentally, so it can be dangerous to you and those around you; so that is why you need to stay close to God.

Do you remember the prophet Elijah? He felt depressed and wanted to die when he had just experienced a great victory over the prophet of Baal and his life was threatened by the king’s wife Jezebel.

In fear he ran into the wilderness, 1Kings 19. There he prayed that he might die, asking God to take his life. We may think that Elijah was overreacting, but feelings of depression can cause this. But wait, there is good news! He wisely went to the right source for help. He cried out to God; the Lord knew Elijah needed restoration. He provided for his need; he revealed himself to Elijah and renewed his sense of purpose by giving him work to do. God brought him hope by reminding him that he was not alone. So, you are not alone young people! Just stop and think and remember God loves you! I Love You!

To be continued
