We ought to be proud to be called Vincentians

Fri Oct 25, 2013

Editor: As we reflect on our independence, without political bias, we have to agree that we have developed as a nation. Every leader since independence to the present has made his contribution towards the nation’s development.{{more}}

As Vincies, we ought to be proud to be called Vincentians, for we have a blessed country and much to be thankful for. We have one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth and much freedom in many ways. Despite the rise in crimes, it is safe to say that we have generally a peaceful country when compared to other countries and nations.

We know times are hard here in SVG, but thankfully, many can still get a free breadfruit, few fishes, provisions, fruits and other items, unlike other countries where everything is sold. However, we have to agree that as a nation, there is still political tribalism. As a nation, we have sacrificed moral behaviour and decency for material things.

As a nation, God in most cases, is only remembered by some on a Sunday morning. We have sacrificed the family altar and family love, training and togetherness with television, cells phones and the Internet. No wonder there is a rise in crime, for many children are growing up without proper love and guidance.

We remember God when we are in trouble or for our convenience. Many of us are still mentally immature, where we have become so dependent on politicians and cannot think for ourselves. Many are still living without God in their lives and we have put aside what God hates by doing their own thing in the name of freedom of choice.

I, therefore, call upon us as a nation to turn to God, repent of our ways and then we will experience God’s blessings upon our lives. For in 2 Chronicles 7:14 we are told, “That if my people that are called by my name shall humble themselves, seek my face and turned from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land.”

May God bless SVG. I LOVE YOU, ST VINCENT.
