We should be rewarded based on performance

Editor: In the world of work, I honestly believe that a person should be duly rewarded based on one’s performance and not on political affiliation.{{more}}

It’s unfair for one to be giving a hundred per cent effort only to be by-passed when it is promotion time and another who has been giving fifty per cent or less is promoted just because they supported the party in power.

Editor, this is nothing new. It has been going on since the days of Joshua and Cato. The question I wish to ask is: “When will this wicked practice end?” Promotion should be on merit.

At a particular school on the Windward side of the island, two female teachers with 19 and 20 years, respectively, as Qualified Assistant Teachers were recently appointed to the post of senior teachers. No objections were raised against the teacher of 20 years experience as a Qualified Assistant Teacher.

But lo and behold, objections were raised by fellow teachers against the other teacher of 19 years experience as a QAT, even though she was assessed and recommended by the former headteacher and also the present one.

The envious and grudgeful claim is that this hard-working teacher who is a born again Christian, is a supporter of the NDP. How can they judge someone who doesn’t engage herself in politics?

A plan is afoot to write or go to the P.M to have him stop or revoke the promotion. It’s people like these who make the government look bad. The Prime Minister should pay no mind to such persons; let them produce if they want promotion. On the other hand, there are those who were waiting for the government to change so they would have been in the lime-light, hence their disgruntled behavior.

Because this teacher is easy-going, they feel they could take advantage of her, but the Almighty is seeing everything. Leave the lady alone. She deserves her promotion for the hard work that she is doing, especially in the Kindergarten department.

Editor, the words of a son says: “Should I be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease, while others fought to win the prize and sailed through bloody seas.”

I say promote on Merit. Produce the goods. No one should sit down and watch others working their soul-case off then running to politicians to get promotion. This non-sense should stop.
