NDP making wholly false, irresponsible statements

26.JUNE.09

EDITOR: The Opposition New Democratic Party (NDP held a rally at Vermont on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Each of its platform speakers made several false and wholly irresponsible statements entirely unbecoming of a mainstream political party in any democracy.{{more}} These statements point to a level of political desperation by power-seekers, unprecedented in our nation’s history.

A sample of some of these false and irresponsible statements suffices to alert our people to the extent of the descent of the NDP.

The Chairman of the rally, Mr. E.G. Lynch, told his listeners that the presence of what he referred to as “the Black Squad” is “provocation they are looking for, an instance, just a little opening to shoot down many of us here tonight; that is why they pass through here”.

Mr. Burton Williams, a recently-named NDP candidate for South Windward, informed the crowd that “He [Ralph Gonsalves] gave the orders to execute those sons here in Vermont”.

Mr. Williams compounded this utterance with these false and irresponsible words about the Prime Minister and the Law Courts: “Everyman who has been accused of a crime should be able to go before a Court and defend himself but Ralph Gonsalves said No, you can’t go before my Court because I control the Court, too, you know. I taking my justice right outside here in the streets of Vermont”.

Another named NDP candidate, Mr. Nigel Stephenson, said: “The Police have been given d,irectives from the Minister of National Security who happened to be the Prime Minister. That is why they are coming down here and terrorising our people and turning it into a reign of terror. They are conducting a reign of terror trying to drive fear into the hearts and souls of our people”.

Finally, another NDP candidate and Senator, Mr. St. Clair Leacock, had this to say: “I am saying to you categorically tonight and I want it to be in the records of the Police Force, that in the highest command in this country it was said to me emphatically that the young men in Vermont were assassinated; they were killed cold-blooded and the Police know it; and the Prime Minister know it that he has blood on his hands for young people in this country and he must pay a price for it.”

On the same night, Mr. Leacock, in his speech, also said this: “I have taken the required insurance to deal with Ralph Gonsalves because anytime that I die an unnatural death, I done say what must be done when I go.”

These quotes are from an actual transcript of the proceedings of the NDP rally. Clearly, that party has gone completely off the rails, devoid of leadership, and stuffed with base demagogues.

Dear Editor, we are a nation of laws. Surely, the law enforcement authorities must take action in respect of these statements, in addition to whatever personal legal action any aggrieved person may pursue. Law-abiding people are demanding that a stop be put to these kinds of irresponsible and lawless statements.

Sincerely yours

Hans King

Press Secretary to the Prime Minister
