Judges’ decision way off base in Miss SVG

19.JUNE.09

Editor: I am a young patron who has been following the Miss SVG show as far back as I can remember and never have I seen such nonsense.

In all four adjudged categories, I think the decisions of the judges were all whack. {{more}}First of all, the swimwear category. I personally think that Kristell Cambridge-Lewis deserved that category, and if for some reason she didn’t get the judges nod, Asmara was the second best option.

Now we all know that the quality of talents showcased this year was very poor, but seriously was it so poor that Yasmeen had to win it? For doing what? Jumping around to some music like a pre-schooler playing dress-up! Come on now! Was Asmara’s unique and well choreographed dance over looked?

As for the evening gown. Tsk Tsk Tsk!!! Am I the only person that noticed what a lovely shape Kristell has in that gown? Don’t get me wrong, Veronique’s gown was beautiful but let’s face it, it couldn’t compete with Kristell’s in both originality and style. Finally, the train wreck interviews. What was so outstanding about Veronique’s answers? Nothing I can recall. She didn’t even answer her first question correctly. The dude asked her how is Miss SVG different than the Miss North Leeward pageant? But she began to ramble on and thank her supporters and fans etc. Who asked for all that? This isn’t the Grammy’s.

Now maybe she was not outstanding in the other categories, but did anybody notice the fluency and confidence that came out in Nickilia Slater-Bridgewater’s answers to her questions?

In closing, Editor, the president of the beauty shows committee should really rethink her choices of judges for these shows and should consider having a previous Miss SVG winner as a judge.
