Monsters in the making

EDITOR: Over and over, as a servant of the Lord, I try to draw attention (warn) of the pending consequences of what I may call “Monsters in the Making”.

Monster No.1: Turning a blind eye to the so-called “one splif” (marijuana) which may go in favour of many of our young men some of whom abuse this privilege from “dusk to dawn” every day, seven days a week in most of our villages and towns, in this beautiful country of ours.{{more}}

As I see it, this evil practice is sure to be a monster in the making. One may ask, why is that so? Well let’s look at a few factors. We all know that whenever one abuses something or someone, there are consequences either small or great. If one abuses food, overeats constantly, after a while he or she will pay in the area of health: if one keeps drinking alcohol sooner or later there’s going to be a “crash” – health related – and so it is with “weed” if one keeps smoking this stuff day and night, seven days a week, or even to a lesser extent, it is a sure “ticket” to self destruction, and that is exactly where scores of our young men who abuse the narcotic are heading. Is this small country prepared to deal with such a problem in the near future?

Currently one can see, the large number of our young men and to a smaller extent women roaming the streets of Kingstown – aimlessly as though without any hope in sight (though there is hope in the Lord Jesus Christ).

While we are to love and care for people, I do believe that a large influx of this nature could have grave consequences for the local economy.

Monster No. 2: The minibus operators. Many of them have done a grave evil to our nation, in particular to our school children in relation to the music and other ills space will not allow me to detail. Nevertheless I believe, that the music on our public transport system should be banned.

Many parents are not aware of the evil that is pounding in their children’s ears morning and evening, everyday as they go and come from school on many of those buses. One does not have to be a rocket scientist to know that violence and sexual immorality can be spread through music and if this evil practice is not stopped these seeds are bound to show up in many of our children. I believe that much of the ill behaviour that is present in many of our schools, are partly related to the lyrics that are being pounded daily in the children’s ears.

Monster No. 3: The widespread use of indecent language. It seems to have become the norm especially among our male population. Again I warn that this practice is not good for our nation and I believe that efforts should be made to curb this evil trend which can have grave moral and spiritual consequences in our nation. Remember the Lord God is still in control, and he will judge sin regardless of how modern a society we may have become even though he is loving, kind, and longsuffering. He is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29).

It is high time that we as a people, repent and turn from evil Ecclesiastes 8:11 says that because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

So as I conclude, though there be many more of what I may call monsters in the making, space will not permit me to detail..Yet! as I close I warn, this nation young and old, that where we have sinned, repent and turn – return to God from where we have strayed and He will have mercy (1 John 1:9).

Bless His Holy name.

Bro. Andrew R. Soleyn
