Good old values are being eroded

EDITOR: We have just celebrated 27 years of Independence and so I take this opportunity to offer my congratulations though belated. Let me also congratulate my good friend and hopefully a national hero, “Ole George” on his seven-day walk. Let’s hope your effort along with Butcher get recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records.

As we look at our achievements over the past 27 years, there are many things that we have achieved and advanced in; Among them are technology, education and social activities. There are many more things that can be mentioned. However, as a nation we have declined spiritually.{{more}}

In Psalm 33:12 we are told “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”

So for this nation to progress the Lord God Almighty must be the master of our lives. We are a religious nation, but not a righteous nation. Parents no longer send their children to Sunday School; instead Sundays are used for partying and pleasure. We seem to be Sunday morning Christians only.

Being sexually pure is no longer an honor, but a thing of the past. We no longer hold marriage as sacred. For the divorce rate is climbing each year. There is incest that is kept undercover and there are more teenage mothers than before. No wonder we have so many delinquent homes and the crime rate is rising.

Our men today are under pressure more than before, due to the demands at home by

their spouses for better living conditions and more material things. Thus there is more unfaithfulness than before.

While there is definitely an improvement in the living conditions and more cell phones are seen around today, the family is sacrificed. The good old values are being eroded and the love and respect for everyone is hardly present.

As a nation we need to get back to God as 1 Chronicles 7:14 mentions “if my people that are called by my name shall humble themselves and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from heaven, will forgive their sins and heal the land.”

I therefore pray that as a nation we heed the Word of God and not just be religious and let righteousness return to this blessed land of ours, only then can we say that we have truly progressed as a nation.
