Police investigate death of man following fire at Belvedere
The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), said they have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Romel Hannaway, a resident of Belvedere, following a fire on Sunday, August 23,2026.
At approximately 7:16 a.m, the police said in a release that they received a report of a fire at a residence in the community. Personnel from the Fire Department responded to the scene, where Hannaway was discovered unresponsive inside a section of the building that had been affected by the fire.
A medical practitioner pronounced Hannaway dead at the scene.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and they said at this stage of the investigation, there is no indication of foul play; however, enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out to determine the exact cause of death, and the police have asked that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist the investigation should contact them at: 457-1211 or the Criminal Investigations Department/Major Crime Unit at 456-1810.
A commitment has been given that all information received will be treated with the appropriate level of confidentiality, and have promised that further information will be provided where appropriate as the investigation progresses.
