South Leeward and Central Kingstown have highest number of males in prison

Inmates from South Leeward and Central Kingstown constitute over a quarter of the male prison population in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

The official prison status presented by Superintendent of Prisons Dwayne Bailey, at the closing of the High Court Criminal Assizes on July 27, 2026 details the specific home districts of the 390 people currently behind bars.

Of the 378 males included in this total, South Leeward stands out as the single largest national contributor, accounting for 61 inmates, which represents 16.1 percent of the male prison population.

Central Kingstown follows closely in second place accounting for 43 inmates, or 11.4 percent of the male prison population.

Following South Leeward and Central Kingstown, the windward, and capital regions show the next highest volumes of local inmates as South Windward sits closely in third with 41 inmates, constituting 10.8 percent of the male national total.
