Man knocked down by fleeing cyclist
AN ELDERLY MAN of Glen is currently a patient at the Male Surgical Ward of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) after being struck by a cyclist, who fled the scene.
Elton “Shepherd” Cumberbatch, a 75-year-old retiree, was walking along the Glen public road in the vicinity of the Community Shops on Wednesday July 29, at around 8. 40 p.m. when he was struck by the cyclist who was wearing a black shirt with a white stripe.
A family member said Cumberbatch suffered a fractured jaw and four fractures in his skull. He is expected to undergo surgery next week.
An eyewitness said the cyclist was coming from the area of the Lewis Punnett Home and when he and Cumberbatch saw each other both tried to move out of the other’s way but were unsuccessful. As a result, the cyclist collided with the elderly man.
