Jackie ‘held things together’, says longstanding friend
INDIVIDUALS and members of various organisations served by former teacher and longstanding president of the Ex-Teachers Association of New York, USA, Jackson Farrell, have paid tribute to his leadership over several years.
Farrell, widely referred to as ‘Jackie,’ a Vincentian who, until recently resided in Brooklyn, NY, but had returned home to La Croix, died on June 20, 2026.
The funeral service for the 73-year-old will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Belmont Methodist Church.
“ I have known Jackie from the time of his NYC (NationalYouth Council), and DistrictYouth Council days. I was the representative from Arnos Vale Cultural and Sports Club, and he was part of a process of pulling the other groups from West St George together as a DistrictYouth Council,” Dr. Jerrol Thompson recounted of Farrell who at the time, was a member of the Belmont MethodistYouth Fellowship.
“I later caught up with Jackie in NewYork, some 20 plus years later, where there were over 25 Vincentian organisations, and some people thought that this was not a good thing, but there were Vincentian organisations into sports, into culture, into benevolence, into all sorts of things, and the ex-teachers really was one of the pillars of that society, “ Thompson said.
